Actor, writer and director Brent Huff has always been interested in character development, motivation and a meaningful existence. Brent is best known for playing Smitty, a fan favorite on the hit ABC Television show The Rookie. He has spent a lifetime studying hundreds of self-help books, including the Bible. In My Playbook for Life, Brent looks to crack some of the code for success, achievement, purpose and happiness.

My Playbook for Life, is a condensed version of Brent’s journals that he regards as his autopsy for success.

When playing a part, Brent acts, dresses and comports himself as a character. Don’t we all act in real life? We put on our ‘social masks’ the moment we walk out the door. Brent is convinced anyone can act like they are confident, positive and believe that they are destined for success. In other words, act as if everything will work out in the end. Act like you already have the quality your desire. Don’t just fake it until you make it. Fake it until you become it. This new-found confidence will take you far. But — it takes hard work.

Brent addresses the rhetorical question, “If you can do better, should you?” We all know the answer. So why don’t we do it? Brent has discovered actionable strategies for self-improvement. Brent believes you should not just want to be the best, but be the only. Don’t just fit it, stand out.

Brent’s actionable strategies include:

  • Small wins.
  • Choose a vocation that you would do for free.
  • You will be fine if they don’t like you.
  • No excuses, you must put in the work
  • Being great takes time. Purpose over pleasure.
  • Be one of one. Stand out. Be the only.
  • Always bounce back.
  • Your health is your wealth
  • Don’t wait to get started, just get started.
  • It’s never too late to get started. Your time is now.
  • Character comes first.
  • Live a life of servitude.

My Playbook for Life is a book for those who don’t want to live an average existence.
